Buying your first set of cornhole bags may seem like a simple exercise that requires little research. However, before you fork out $20-30, it is necessary to do your homework; otherwise, you might be left buying substandard bags manufactured with the cheapest, least durable materials out there. The first step in buying cornhole bags is to research what material the bags are made from. If a company you are considering purchasing from refuses to acknowledge the fabric used for their bags, then stay away. Don’t be a sucker and fall for their “unbeatable prices” jargon. If they are selling bags for $10 for a set of 8, it is highly likely that they are using a cheap cloth called trigger cloth. This material is used for cheap bed sheets and curtains and doesn’t hold up to the rigors of everyday cornhole use. Do not, and I repeat, do not, buy cornhole bags unless they are made from high-quality, durable duck cloth. This material is a heavy weight cotton fabric and can take a beating. Make sure the duck cloth is, at minimum, 10 oz.
Next, look to see if the bags are stitched with a synthetic thread such as nylon. Nylon lasts a long time and will not fray like natural-fiber threads do. Again, if the company you are thinking of buying from does not advertise what type of thread is used, find another corn toss retailer. Also, make sure the bags are filled with 14-16 oz of whole kernel corn. A retailer who says they use cracked corn or some other cheap variant is essentially ripping you off because these fillers will break down very quickly, unlike whole kernel corn.
