Direct TV Promotions Compared With Cable

by admin on April 10, 2010

One of the big reasons people sign up with cable is for the triple play deal they offer.  Of course, promotional pricing is the name of the game when you are looking at either a cable or satellite TV package.  It is much more enticing when you see a satellite package advertised at $29.99 a month, or a cable TV triple play bundle offered for $99.99 per month compared to what the real price is.   Lets briefly look at what Direct TV promotions offer compared to what you will find with your local cable company.

The advertised price point you will see all the time with Direct TV is the $29.99 package offer, which applies to their Choice package.  This package offers about 150 audio and video channels, but in order to get the two HD upgrades from Direct TV you have to at least go up to the Choice Xtra package which is $34.99 a month.  Both of these prices are reduced by $29 a month for the first year, so you can see that your price will nearly double when the promotional period ends.   Also not included is HD channel access, which is another $10 fee, and DVR capability which will run another $7 a month.  Good things to keep in mind when considering this promotion.

The cable promotions will of course vary depending on who your local cable company might be.  Big players like Comcast are currently advertising their Starter XF triple play which will cost you $99 a month for a year.  Of course with these offers you not only get cable TV service but also home phone access and a high speed internet connection.  Once the year is up, prepared to pay quite a bit more, as the introductory rate is usually discounted by 40 to 50 percent.  If you aren’t real picky on your provider, you can play the game of switching providers and save yourself some money every time.
