There are many people that are born with eyelashes that are shorter, yet have desired them longer. If you’ve tried creams, lotions, and just about everything you can think of, there is still the option of eyelash extensions. Before we go there though let’s answer the question, “Do eyelashes grow back?”
Yes, eyelashes do grow back, though it usually takes a considerable amount of time to develop one, typically, many months. The growth of eyelashes requires patience and the duration of time eyelashes need to grow also depends on the reason the eyelashes have been lost in the first place. Factors such as your age, hormones, choice of foods and habits can all play a part in the growth and loss of eyelashes.
Eyelashes grow in about 3 steps.:
Anagen -This is the first phase and the phase when you can actually begin to see the eyelash appear. During this stage, the hair follicle in the skin grows the hair by bringing old cells to one another and form a single group. Attached to the hair follicle is the sebaceous gland which produces sebum and the more the number of sebaceous glands that are found, the thicker the density of the hair. This stage usually takes no longer than 8 weeks.
Catagen – The is a short stage that occurs at the end of the anagen phase. It signals the end of the active new hair growth and the hair follicle begins to become smaller. This phase goes on for about 2 to 3 weeks after the anagen phase.
Telogen- This is the final phase in the life of the eyelash. During this stage there is no longer any activity in the development of the eyelash. Your body has gone through its complete cycle of forming the eyelash, and will soon shed it.
As with all things in life, there are also many factors which determine the speed at which your eyelashes will grow and the density they will have. Eating a well balanced diet certainly helps because with the proper vitamins and minerals, your body is able to perform its necessary functions and much quicker. Try not to drink too much liquor or smoke as well. Both of these habits consume much of your body’s time in its repair functions, leaving less nutrients and energy for less important tasks than things such as cleaning blood, purifying cells, etc. If you have suffered loss of your eyelashes due to flames or other heat elements, you may have to be prepared to take a loss on having them return. If scar tissue develops over the follicle, hair will not be able to pass through the pore.
If you’ve reached a stage in life where you feel that your eyelashes just aren’t growing as fast and full as you like, then eyelash extensions may be for you.
