When it comes to car tires, you can never be too safe. You and your family depend on them. If your tires are balding, or cracking due to old age, or if you’ve purchased the tires for the wrong environmental conditions, their performance will be bad and the life of the tire will be short. When purchasing tires, there are a great variety to choose from and if you’re not accustomed to selecting tires for your vehicle, then you really need to look into the details of what may be your next selection.
Of the numerous tires to choose from, I’d like to focus on Douglas Tires. The reason being is that Douglas Tires are a brand that is sold internationally, but with a lot of controversy. Walmart (the largest retailer in the world) sells these tires, but the question has been raised many times, are they selling products that are worthy of being put on your vehicle?
Douglas Tires are produced and sold by various retail distributors around the country, Walmart being the largest. They are made by Goodyear Tires as one of their lesser quality brands, when compared to their Goodyear labeled brother tires. Consumer reports show a wide range of user feedback on these tires, which leads one to question various things. Are these tires worthy of being sold if you cannot put them on every vehicle they are recommended for, and not get consistent results? The answer most people will give you is, “No.” If 25% of Douglas Tires reviews are saturated with issues, then there is a problem somewhere, even though many people that attempt to sell them to you will also attempt to tell you that Douglas Tires are just as good as their Goodyear kin.
What many retailer would have you believe is that Goodyear makes one brand and sells them for $150 per tire and then makes an exactly comparable brand called Douglas Tires for Walmart and sells them for only $60. Well, the facts just don’t add up. Good tires are costly because of the materials they’re made with and the stability of the tires have proven that they are a quality tire. Douglas Tires on the other hand have notoriously weak sidewalls. There’s just no question about it. They are different tires.
You’ll mainly find Douglas Tires for sale at Walmart super centers where you can also have them installed by the Tire & Lube Department, but I must give you my fair opinion and warn you. These tires seem to be made inferior in many ways in comparison to Goodyear tires. Even the tread is inferior. When a car travels on water, the way the tread is designed on the tire determines how the water is moved out of the way so that the tire can touch the ground and gain traction. Douglas Tires simply have treads that don’t match their Goodyear counterparts and as a result, the traction you gain in wet conditions is not nearly as good. Even the materials the tires are made with are known to wear faster than Goodyear tires.
The bottom line is that Douglas Tires are an inferior brand to Goodyear. They are not the same. If you have little money and need a tire right away, then Douglas Tires can supply your need, but don’t expect a high performance. Also, please make sure you have your wheels aligned when getting new tires. If they are not, the tires will wear unevenly, very quickly, and you will void all warranties.
