Wood High Chairs: Retro Appeal Mixed with Stability

by admin on May 19, 2010

With the advent of the internet, many parents are becoming better informed of the myriad options that exist for child care products, including many unlikely alternatives that we wouldn’t have often considered when the net was just getting its legs.  Wood high chairs are among these alternatives, serving as a charming throwback to the days before plastic was cheap enough to mass produce in high quality.  With current day concerns about the true safety potential of plastic products in terms of chemical content and structural integrity, it’s no wonder that modern day parents are turning to seemingly antique alternatives for their own children!

One of the biggest draws to a wooden high chair for these parents is the extreme stability of the material, itself, offering a sturdy platform for the child to sit on while eating or just hanging out with the family.  Many people have experienced a slight feeling of unease as they have watched a child teetering uncertainly on a cheap plastic high chair that just doesn’t look to have the necessary stability to perform the task correctly.  Of course, you can get a poor quality wood chair as well, so be sure that you do your due diligence and research the alternatives, especially in regard to what other people are saying on review sites like Amazon.

Of course, purchasing a ready-made chair isn’t the only option.  Many people like wood products precisely because they can be crafted at home with the right wood-working tools.  If you or someone else among your family and friends is handy with wood-working, see if you can get something that is custom made.  This will be especially nice since you can hand the wooden chair down through the generations as a true family heirloom!

Next time you are shopping for a highchair, why not give wood a bit of consideration as a viable material?
